Shelley Thompson
practices in complex business disputes and litigation, and
handles all aspects of Trusts & Estates and Business
Succession within the Firm. She deals with wills, trusts,
and estate issues for high-net-worth families, families with
small to mid-size estates, and non-traditional families. She
assists families with probate litigation and estate
disputes. She also assists clients with charitable giving,
passing on family businesses, contracts, buy-sell
agreements, operating agreements, and prenuptial agreements.
Shelley is a member of the Trusts and Estate Section of the
Colorado Bar Association, and regularly speaks on trusts and
estates legal issues. She is also on the board of directors
of Community Health Charities of Colorado, a non-profit
alliance of over 50 health charities whose missions are to
improve lives affected by chronic illnesses and disability.
Shelley was chosen as a finalist in 2009 for the Young
Professional Award, given by the Colorado Women’s Chamber of
Commerce. Shelley’s publications include: Thompson, S.,
Globalization of the Securities Markets: Effects on Investor
Protection, ABA Journal, International Lawyer, Winter
2007-2008, 41 INTLLAW 1121.
Shelley’s prior experience includes several years of complex
litigation in New York, New York. She performed pro bono
litigation and volunteer work on behalf of foreign-born U.S.
residents, achieving changes to New York law. She has
performed a wide variety of other community work, including
volunteer work for people in need in Denver.
Originally from Denver, Shelley received her Bachelors of
Arts in Political Science from the University of Colorado at
Boulder in 1996 and her Juris Doctor and Masters of Arts in
International Affairs from American University in Washington
D.C. in 2001. Shelley is licensed to practice law in
Colorado and New York. She is proficient in Spanish.
